SPECTRUM 21 FANTASTIC ART WINNER
This artwork accompanies the dark fantasy novella: "Burning Girls", by Veronica Schanoes, published on Tor.com.
Our artwork represents a final episode of the story. It is a clear reference to the The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in New York City on March 25, 1911. The fire caused the deaths of 146 garment workers, most of the victims were recent Jewish and Italian immigrant women aged sixteen
to twenty-three; it was one of the deadliest industrial disasters in the history of the city of New York.
The story tells about a Jewish girl growing up in an increasingly hostile environment in Poland in the late nineteenth century. She is forced to emigrate to the United States in search of work.
